Ten influencers are invited to a private island to film a new reality show called ‘In Real Life’. While there, the influencers plan to ‘unplug’ from social media, computers, and their phones for their three-week trip. Things start to get out of control when one of the influencers is found dead and someone calling themselves the ‘Sponsor’ threatens to reveal their secrets unless they vote to ‘cancel’ someone. Those left alive must find the killer before they strike again. However, when all of them have secrets they’d kill to keep, knowing who to trust is impossible.
“People to Follow” is a YA thriller, and Olivia Worley’s debut novel. This book is for mystery fans looking for a modern version of Agatha Christy. Even though there are ten characters, the story is told from just four POVs: Logan, Kira, Elody, and Max. This helped narrow the focus of the story without losing any complexity. There was also some good commentary about online culture and the influencer job; like how you start out as a creator but, once you start getting
brand deals, you become a product instead.
